Meet the Doctors

As previously mentioned, I merged my orthodontic practice with Havens Orthodontics in June 2022.  You may refer to the February 2023 Blog post to view the merger announcement.  Most of you have met Dr. Nicholas Ancona, who is also an Associate of Havens Orthodontics.  Dr. Ancona requested placement in my practice because he is interested in furthering his education and training of the Damon Braces System, which has been my standard of treatment care since January 2000.

Dr. Ancona's knowledge and expertise working with INVISALIGN aligner therapy has enabled an expansion to occur within our practice, which is now known as "Jusino Orthodontics."  I am excited to work with Dr. Ancona and we are learning from each other.  I could not have asked for a more compatible Partner than Dr. Ancona.

Dr. Ancona studied aligner therapy and is experienced demonstrating advantages associated with INVISALIGN while also recognizing potential limitations.  Dr. Ancona completed the Aligner Intensive Fellowship taught by top Orthodontic Specialists in the field of aligner therapy and is considered the office INVISALIGN Expert.  Since Dr. Ancona's arrival; the office has experienced an increase of patients benefiting from INVISALIGN treatment.  Dr. Ancona welcomes the opportunity to evaluate your particular orthodontic needs or those of your family.

Dr. Nicholas Ancona - Office INVISALIGN Expert

This week, we are featuring Dr. Nicholas Ancona - the office INVISALIGN Expert.    Dr. Nicholas Ancona joined our Orthodontic Practice as an Associate in July and for those wondering...Dr. Jusino isn't going anywhere but forward.  The addition of INVISALIGN Expert Dr. Ancona, is an expansion of our practice.

Dr. Ancona studied Aligner Therapy and prides himself on his ability to demonstrate advantages of INVISALIGN while understanding potential limitations.  In addition to being INVISALIGN Certified, our Expert continued his aligner education with the Aligner Intensive Fellowship taught by top Orthodontic Specialists in the field of aligner therapy.

When considering the best method for tooth movement, it is important to recognize Orthodontic Specialists like Dr. Jusino and Dr. Ancona have completed additional training and education (2-3 years) beyond attaining a Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree.  An Orthodontic Specialist is best trained to manage patient malocclusions (bad bites) and tooth movement.

Orthodontists practice the specialty of orthodontics exclusively.

Dr. Ancona's unique training and expertise working with INVISALIGN Aligner Therapy provides an opportunity to expand treatment options available to our patients.  According to Dr. Ancona, "INVISALIGN offers treatment flexibility for the adult patient, including less office visits and the most discreet appearance among orthodontic appliances."

Common Questions:   What is INVISALIGN Aligner Therapy? Aligners are  a series of removable, clear plastic trays that gradually move teeth.  Aligner trays are changed every 1-2 weeks as prescribed by the Orthodontic Specialist.

Does Aligner Therapy take longer than braces?  When properly diagnosed and treatment planned by an Orthodontic Specialist; aligner therapy is similar to Damon Braces when it comes to time spent wearing appliances.

Does INVISALIGN cost more than braces?  INVISALIGN is comparable to Damon Braces in cost.

Meet Dr. Nicholas Ancona

 Dear Parents and Patients,

I am excited to introduce my new Associate, Dr. Nicholas Ancona. Some of you have met Dr. Ancona, who has been assisting me in our treatment clinic the past two weeks.  In addition to assisting my orthodontic practice, Dr. Ancona is an Associate for Havens Orthodontics.

Dr. Ancona requested placement in my practice because he is interested in furthering his education and training of the Damon System, which has been my standard of treatment care since January 2000.  As mentioned in the February 2023 office newsletter; I merged my orthodontic practice with Havens Orthodontics in June 2022.  You may refer to the office BLOG to view the merger announcement.

Dr. Ancona has been assigned to assist my practice during scheduled patient days.  He will continue to assist other Havens Orthodontics offices on Fridays.  I am delighted to work with Dr. Ancona and he is looking forward to meeting our wonderful patients and parents.  To those wondering...Dr. Jusino isn't going anywhere but forward!

Meet Dr. Nicholas Ancona -

As Dr. Jusino mentioned; I look forward to meeting all of you and I am having a great time getting to know members of the All Star Team.  Dr. Jusino's staff is professional, knowledgeable, helpful, caring and fun to be with!  The office itself is amazing and I love the sports memorabilia!

As an Orthodontic Specialist, I want to become known as a Damon Braces Provider.  Fortunately, Dr. Jusino is a willing Mentor and there is no one better to learn from than the "Smile Engineer."  I consider it an honor and privilege to further my education and training here.  Orthodontics is not an exact science and as Specialists we are committed to (60) hours of continuing education every three years for license renewal.

On a personal level, I am married to my High School Sweetheart Colleen. Next year, we celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary.  We are parents to energetic and charming Leo (age 3) and baby Lucy (5 months), who absolutely completes our family.  "Fur babies" Milo and Perry keep us busy, as well.  Colleen is my rock and our family is my greatest treasure.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Wayne State University where I received two Bachelor of Science Degrees - Biochemistry and Biology.  I was accepted to the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.  I am a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.  I served as Class President and Chief Resident at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry where I completed my Orthodontic Residency program.  My research on TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) was presented at the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) annual meeting where I was selected to receive the William R. Proffit Resident Scholarship Award.

As an Orthodontic Specialist, I love the science and engineering component of aligning teeth and correcting "bad bites" (malocclusions).  As a parent, I am passionate about helping children transform their smiles to one of confidence and pride benefiting them for a lifetime.  I welcome the challenges of adult orthodontics and assisting those who suffer from TMJ, which can be debilitating.

In my two weeks working at Dr. Jusino's office, I am feeling very much at home.  I like the fact the Team meets in the morning to review the day's schedule and recite the office Mission Statement.  I assure you of my commitment to the office Mission Statement, which aligns with my core values as an Orthodontist and person who genuinely cares and desires to help others.

Gratefully yours,

Dr. Nicholas Ancona and Dr. Thomas D. Jusino

100 Years U of M Orthodontics

From March 3-5, 2023; I attended the 50th Moyers Symposium, which took place at the Rackham School of Graduate Studies affiliated with the University of Michigan.  The Moyers Symposium offers continuing education I look forward to attending, as Doctors come from all over the world to lecture.

The University of Michigan's Orthodontics Program was instituted in 1923 and is the oldest Orthodontics Degree Program in the Nation.  The Centennial celebration honoring 100 years is an event I will treasure forever, and was included with the Moyers Symposium weekend.

I am celebrating a milestone in 2023, as well- my 40th year as an Orthodontic Specialist and I am proud to be a Wolverine!  What a thrill it was to tour the U of M Football locker room, walk through the tunnel and out to the Field!

Thank you for choosing my Practice for the orthodontic needs of your family; serving you is one of the greatest blessings of my life!

My man Bo! Those who stay will be Champions!

This was a first for me! Inside the U of M locker room!

Dr. Jusino has merged with Havens Orthodontics

Dear Parents and Patients,

For many years, I was a member of an orthodontic study club originally comprised of nine (9) other Orthodontists.  I had been invited to join the study club shortly after purchasing my practice and was the youngest member for a long time.  Each member of the study club was an Orthodontist in private practice.

We met on a monthly basis to discuss treatment cases and share ideas regarding practice management.  There was never an attitude of competition between us and we took turns meeting at each other's offices for hosting.  The study club was so successful, we developed a legal agreement between us to assist any practice where the Orthodontist became incapacitated or worse for up to nine (9) months.

One by one, the members of the study club retired and the "Insurance Policy" we formed between us eventually dissolved.  The introduction of Covid forced me to evaluate many factors, including the loss of security resulting from dissolution of our study club and the "Insurance Policy" we had formed.  In 2021, I decided it was time to form a new group of colleagues committed to the ideals once shared with my former study club members.

In June of 2022, I merged my practice with Havens Orthodontics.  Together, we are committed to working with other Orthodontists (Dr. Jon Dzingle) creating environments of learning and mentoring.  Since the merger, our office implemented scanning (eliminating most of the unpleasant, goopy impressions) and we are piloting a new inventory system, which will be implemented in other Havens Orthodontics offices.

The merger of our practices allows individual autonomy to continue with the advantage of friendship, learning and exchanging information benefiting our patients.  I am not going anywhere but forward, and watch for a new sign, "Jusino Orthodontics" to be added to the Merchants Marketplace entry.

Patients eligible for orthodontic benefits may notice EOB's (explanation of benefits) referencing "Jusino Orthodontics," or "Havens Orthodontics."  As a service to you, our staff continues to facilitate necessary insurance claims and you should not be concerned.  For the All Star Team, it has been "business as usual."

Texting is the most efficient means of communicating with our office.  Members of the All Star Team have access to the practice management system and text messaging on their cell phones, tablets and laptops.  Regardless of the day or time - text the office (248) 476-3000 for quickest response.

Dr. Havens is a great Golfer!

The Office is Festive and Ready for the Holidays

I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful and spent with those you love.  My family hosted and we created lots of new memories.  The highlight of the long weekend for me was the Michigan-Ohio game!  I am so happy, happy, happy!

Go Blue and Hail to the Victors!

The office is decorated and it's beginning to look a lot like winning...

Check out this picture of Bo and Jim!

Still celebrating...
