Judy Coltman - First Recipient of the AAO Staff Achievement Award

 I am so proud of our Financial Coordinator Judy Coltman - the first Recipient of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Orthodontic Staff Achievement Award!  

The actual Award was intended to be presented at the AAO Conference in Atlanta, GA in May 2020, however, the bully Covid-19 forced the meeting to be held virtually instead.  Judy was then expected to receive the Award in Boston, MA this past June at the 2021 AAO Conference, however, Boston cancelled all large events due to the ongoing bully Covid-19 and the meeting was again held virtually.  

The AAO determined to send the Award to Judy and she recently received it at the office- it is quite impressive and very heavy!  The AAO has invited Judy to attend the 2022 meeting scheduled to occur in Miami, FL - all expenses paid!  Hopefully, the bully Covid-19 will not disrupt an in-person conference and Judy can wear her T-Shirt while attending!

There is no elevator to success- you have to take the stairs

 BEST WISHES FOR A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR

Vacations are over and students are preparing for return to school.  Although I say so every year, this summer sped by and as I write this, Labor Day weekend is approaching.  Summer is my favorite season and the Puerto Rican blood in me relishes the heat...

The intense heat we experienced this summer produced intense storms with power outages affecting many areas.  During one such storm, our home generator system completely failed and we were without power for several days.  Of course, we had just grocery shopped and no one was available for repair...

Life is unpredictable and sometimes our best plans fail.  I researched and invested in what was marketed as the best home generator for our needs.  Every Friday at noon, the generator is programmed to run several tests and results are e-mailed.  Never has the generator failed during programmed testing providing a sense of security I believed to be dependable.  Yet, the generator did fail during an actual power outage proving testing isn't always reliable...

Eventually power returned, the generator was repaired, groceries were purchased and the refrigerator stocked again.  The storm left us vulnerable, but not beaten and lessons were learned:

1.)  Prepare for the worst case scenario - research options and avoid decisions based on emotion - use analytical data

2.)  Plan for the best and hope the worst case scenario never occurs

3.)  Accept the possibility failure may occur regardless of your best efforts

4.)  If failure occurs - a cool and calm response is usually more effective than intense heat

5.)  Accept your losses and begin recovery

6.)  Repair and amend - if necessary change gears

7.)  Don't be afraid to start over

8.)  Have faith - "This too shall pass"

Having weathered the storm of Covid-19, students are returning to "in person" learning and resuming extra-curricular activities during the 2021-2022 school year.  Patients involved in physical sports are encouraged to wear a mouth-guard.  If you do not have a mouth-guard, contact the office and one will be provided - protect your teeth!

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful summer with lots of new memories created.  I hope everyone is excited to begin a new school year and planning for success.  Hopefully, the intense storms are behind us, however, life is unpredictable and if a tempest occurs - follow steps 1-7 listed above and have faith "This too shall pass!"

What I Did on My Summer Vacation by Dr. Tommy Jusino

I played with my cars and went to the Woodward Dream Cruise with my good friend from Dental School Dr. Jeffie Knorr, a practicing Oral Surgeon in Macomb County.  We had fun... VAROOM!

We drove down Woodward Avenue to Mustang Alley, looked at awesome cars and had lunch.  The end.
